The National Alpine Gathering "Rimini-San Marino" 2020 will be the first "Italy-abroad"meeting in the history of the National Alpine Association, which is preparing to experience this year the 93rd edition of the event, as well as the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Alpine Troops.

The arrival of the "black feathers" on the Titano not only testifies the friendship between San Marino and Italy, but it also pays tribute to the contribution that some San Marino citizens, who joined the Alpine troops despite the neutrality of the Small State, gave during World War I, fighting alongside the Italian soldiers. A contribution that was completed with the establishment of a field hospital, where over 3000 people, including Ernest Hemingway, found help and care.

Special Guided Tours from 5 to 7 May

Do you want to get to know two UNESCO heritage historic centers in one shot? Do you want to discover anecdotes and curiosities about the oldest Republic in the world? Do you want to spend a few hours in nature along a part of the Titano's Path?
This experience combines the pleasure of walking a path completely immersed in the greenery of Mount Titano with the story of anecdotes and curiosities about the Ancient Land of Freedom. From the Old Town of San Marino City we will descend along the Costa dell’Arnella to the ancient Mercatale (today Borgo Maggiore). From there, we will enter the dense wood of the Rupe where we will talk about the origin of the mountain, the flora and fauna of this very particular environment located a stone's throw from the Old Town. Once at the Third Tower, we will be back in San Marino City where we will continue with a tour of the main places of interest of the capital which will include the Second Tower, the First Tower, the Basilica of San Marino and the Piazza della Libertà / Palazzo Pubblico, where our circular route will end. This tour is the perfect opportunity to meet people from the past and appreciate a different San Marino that for centuries has lived in symbiosis with its Mount and the Mercatale, so much so that it becomes one that in 2008 was registered by UNESCO in the World Heritage Site. Outdoor tour, visits to monuments not included.

Red balloons falling from the sky

The Republic of San Marino is a small happy island which, thanks to its neutrality, has not yet been touched by the horrors of war. But on 26 June 1944, a little girl sees some red balloons descending from the sky. It is the sign that something terrible and unexpected is about to happen. The bombing, the one hundred thousand refugees in the train tunnels and the sometimes sad but, more often, curious and hopeful stories of hundreds of Jews who were saved thanks to the generosity of an entire nation. Come discover and listen to the events of those days told directly by the voice of the protagonists.
