L'arte rediviva. In principio fu carta
Exhibition dedicated to San Marino artist and stonemason Aldo Volpini
The exhibition L'arte rediviva. In principio fu carta - Art rediscovered. In the beginning was paper, celebrating San Marino artist and stonemason Aldo Volpini, brings together the preparatory sketches of the Maestro's masterly works exhibited in a mirror view alongside the works later made with stone, ceramics or as paintings on canvas and retraces, starting from paper as the soul of the work, the main projects carried out on public and private commissions which, silently, inhabit not only the most evocative views of the Old Town, but also the most representative places of the highest institutions of the San Marino State and outside the Republic itself.
The focus of the exhibition event is the vast artistic heritage, partly unpublished, of works on paper of multiple, even enormous dimensions and the sketches of themes studied by the Maestro and some of the great unfinished utopias that have remained only in the form of drawings.
The exhibition and its catalogue, part of the I Quaderni S.U.M.S. (S.U.M.S. Notebooks) editorial series, which will be publicly presented on the day of the inauguration, contain shots by photographer Paolo Crocenzi and narrate the far-sighted vision of a protagonist and interpreter of the San Marino art scene, who was born in the Republic in 1920 and passed away in 1976, through an immersive journey that reveals the unseen, merges tradition and symbols of San Marino-ness as well as the extraordinary creativity of an artistic genius.
