San Marino Matsuri 2026
Celebrating Japanese Culture in San Marino
Two days dedicated to the culture and traditions of Japan, marking the 12th anniversary of the founding of San Marino Jinja, a symbol of the friendship and deep ties between Japan and San Marino.
Founded in 2014 in memory of the victims of the earthquake and as a place of prayer for peace, San Marino Jinja will be at the heart of a rich programme of events celebrating Japanese culture.
The first day will open with the annual festival at the San Marino shrine, followed by a captivating Kabuki performance by actor Otani Hiromatsu, and a convivial gathering.
The second day will feature the traditional procession of the golden mikoshi, which will make its way through the streets of San Marino’s historic city centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sacred portable shrine will be carried by Japanese and Sammarinese volunteers, creating a symbolic encounter between Japanese tradition and the history of the Republic of San Marino.
