Strategic Agreement Signed with UN Tourism Leadership

Madrid, 21 January 2026 — The consolidation of San Marino’s position on the international tourism stage received a new and significant boost today in Madrid. The Republic’s delegation, led by the Minister of Tourism Federico Pedini Amati, together with his Chief of Cabinet Alan Gasperoni, appointed UN Tourism Focal Point for San Marino, held in-depth discussions on programmatic priorities with the leadership of the United Nations agency. The meeting was attended by Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, the newly appointed Secretary-General, accompanied by Director-General Natalya Bayona, Director for the Europe Region Cordula Wohlmuther, Director of External Relations Bela Jakeli, and Director of Innovation Antonio López de Ávila.

During the bilateral talks, the priorities of UN Tourism’s new mandate emerged clearly, focusing on a profound structural reorganization and the strengthening of synergies between the public and private sectors. The shared vision places strong emphasis on training new generations and on developing sustainability models that integrate economic, environmental, and social dimensions. In this context, the organization expressed its firm hope that San Marino will continue its outstanding work on tourism accessibility, a field in which the Republic is recognized as a global hub of reference.

“The alignment with the new leadership of UN Tourism confirms the strength of the path we have embarked upon,” stated Minister Federico Pedini Amati. “We are speaking of a vision that brings together innovation and inclusivity. The invitation extended to the Secretary-General for the 2026 edition of the Next Tourism Forum, focused on investments, reflects our determination to turn San Marino into the ideal laboratory for testing the tourism policies of tomorrow—policies capable of generating real value for the territory and concrete opportunities for our young people.”

The productive day was preceded by the inauguration of San Marino’s exhibition space at the FITUR trade fair. The event, curated by the San Marino Tourism Board's staff , was attended by prominent figures from Italian institutions, including ENIT President Alessandra Priante and Gianluca Caramanna, Advisor at the Italian Ministry of Tourism. Their joint presence underscores the intention to coordinate territorial promotion strategies in the Adriatic area, highlighting the distinctive qualities of a safe and forward-looking destination.

The institutional program in Spain will conclude tomorrow with the highly anticipated official audience of the Ministers of Tourism with His Majesty the King of Spain, a moment of the highest diplomatic significance that underscores the importance of the sector as a driver of growth and dialogue among nations.
