Two film productions set in San Marino

Introduction of the projects of the Ministry of Tourism for the development of film tourism

Introduction of the projects of the Ministry of Tourism for the development of film tourism: in San Marino the scenes of "Tornando ad Est" by Antonio Pisu and of the historical film "Operazione salvataggio"

Pedini Amati: “When we talked about cinema some people laughed at us but on Monday the cameras arrive in the historic centre…”

The Ministry of Tourism is following up on the projects related to film tourism included in the strategic plan presented a few weeks ago and announces at a press conference the imminent start of filming of two films shot partly in San Marino.

Late yesterday afternoon the Minister of Tourism presented the collaboration with Strade dell'Est, Maurizio Paganelli's Romagna production company which will set some images of the film "Tornando ad est" in San Marino, sequel to "Est - Dittatura last minute” which had a great success in 2020. The second chapter of the feature film directed by director Antonio Pisu will also star Lodo Guenzi (former singer of Lo Stato Sociale), Matteo Gatta and Jacopo Costantini awarded for “Est” with the “Nastro d’argento' award for emerging actors. The story set in 1991 in Romagna, in San Marino and on the border between Romania and Bulgaria is a spy-comedy that will be distributed in cinemas and on the main international streaming platforms. Filming of “Tornando ad est” will take place in the months of May and June.

The cameras of the film dedicated to 'Operazione Salvataggio, organized by the Minister of Education Bottai towards the end of the Second World War and in particular to the figure of the Marche superintendent Pasquale Rotondi who hid the most important artistic works in Montefeltro to avoid plunder and damage in times of war, will be in San Marino on Monday 19. The works will be hidden in the Rocca di Sassocorvaro and in the Palazzo dei Principi di Carpegna "chests" where not only the treasures of the Marche arrive, but also those of Venice, Milan and Rome which need to be protected from bombing. Piazzale della Pieve, Passo delle Steghe, Contrada Borgoloto and other glimpses of the historic centre will be the sets of the Quality Film project.

“Film tourism in Italy is worth almost 600 million euros a year - explained Federico Pedini Amati presenting a research by Panorama Turismo - and we, who have views, panoramas and locations that the whole world envies us, have not been able to attract a film production for over 50 years. We don't have the tool of film commissions and we certainly need specific rules for the development of the film industry but we have been working for 4 years now to try to bring sets to our country. Today - continued Pedini Amati - contrary to what detractors and keyboard warrior claim, two production companies have chosen us. It is no coincidence - continues Pedini Amati - that the first two productions come one from Emilia Romagna and the other from Marche, I worked with conviction for relationships in the area and this is one of the results we bring home"

The Minister of Tourism Federico Pedini Amati explained that the setting of film productions in San Marino is to be considered interesting as a promotional vehicle as it allows images of the country to be brought to the large and small screen but also as an economic engine thanks to the 'effect that a production generates for the hospitality sector and for the involvement of local companies, workers and artists. Other film productions with scenes and clips set in San Marino are planned for the summer and next autumn.
