Garibaldi, Statues in Motion
Photographic exhibition
The photography exhibition "Garibaldi, Statues in Motion" was born from Francesco Arancioni's passion for the Hero of Two Worlds, whose footsteps he has chosen to follow through Italy, South America, and the other most significant places in his exceptional life, including San Marino.
In 1849, General Giuseppe Garibaldi, military leader of the revolutionaries fighting to unify Italy, took refuge in San Marino with approximately 2,000 soldiers to escape the armies of Austria and Rome. The authorities managed to prevent the entry of Austrian troops, giving Garibaldi's followers time to escape the territory without bloodshed.
Arancioni, armed only with a camera, sought out and photographed the numerous statues that immortalize Giuseppe Garibaldi in various poses: astride his horse or standing, half-length or in the round. These many poses make the sculptures featured in this extraordinary photographic investigation truly "moving statues," bringing out from this exhibition not one but countless profiles of General Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Francesco Arancioni
Born in Rome in 1973, he has cultivated a passion for photography since he was a teenager. Self-taught, he learned the technique and the many facets of photography from the master Pino Rampolla.
He has been working on the color orange for some time, channeling and structuring it in his photographic project "ARANCIONINELMONDO."
The photographic project "Garibaldi, statues in movement," born from his passion for the hero of two worlds, was presented in September 2022 in the museum area of the Rocca di Umbertide. In August 2023, it was exhibited in the Garibaldi House Museum on Caprera, at the Garibaldi Compendium.
